MEDAL TO REMEMBER
Illustrator Jamey Christoph created the winning design for the 2014 Gay Games medals. His depiction combines memorable attributes of both Cleveland and Akron in a unique circular medal. It also served as the inspiration for the program cover design.
The front portrays Cleveland's iconic skyscrapers, including the Terminal Tower, lift bridge and smokestacks. The medal incorporates Akron's viaduct bridge and blimp on the front, while tire treads circle the back (Akron is a giant in the tire industry.)
PRIDE IN THE MOMENT: Evolving Art
Pride in the Moment is an evolving online exhibition organized by Summit Artspace and furided by the Gay Community Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation. Photographers in residence the week of the Games are choosing cultural and sporting events and capturing the beauty of the faces of the people involved in Gay Games 9. Primarily capturing portraits of people and athletes, the exhibition will grow each day online representing this unique event in Northeast Ohio. The exhibition will be linked to a multitude of websites involved in the Games, on Facebook, social media and come alive on this website beginning 11 Aug: www.PrideintheMomentGG9CLE.com. CREATIVE STARS GO ALL OUT
It all starts with the eye. Gay Games 9 visuals were led by a terrific team with great eyes, creative minds and sharp technical minds. A special salute to Brokaw, the Cleveland-based agency that created the Go All Out campaign; Aztek, the web design firm that operationalizes the website design; and Jeff Prystajko, the independent graphics and web artist who created earlier campaigns, website design, advertising and the signage you see all week. They really live up to the Gay Games 9 tagline: Go All Out!
LEAVING A LEGACY
Cleveland+Akron is proud to host the 2014 Gay Games, and is excited to know the Games are leaving a big impact and legacy in the region. The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio created the official Gay Games LGBTQ culture competence training program that was attended by hundreds representing nonprofits, businesses and governmental agencies. That training opportunity will continue to be available.
The Cleveland Foundation's commitment as the presenting sponsor doesn't stop Games Week. This week, it announced the creation of the Gay Games LGBT Legacy Fund.
